Stag magazine began in 1951 as a 25-cent, 82-page men’s adventure publication. By the 1970s, Stag became a pornographic magazine. And when Richard Milner joined Stag as managing editor in the late 1970s, he brought a new area of focus: the burgeoning adult film industry in New York, including interviews, picture spreads, and gossipy articles about the XXX scene.
Stag magazine became a journal of sorts for the sex film business and hired a number of adult industry stalwarts to lend their names to the publication. One such adult film regular was Kandi Barbour who, under the name Nora, penned a monthly column in the magazine’s 1981 editions. (It was actually written by Milner himself.)
We have republished all 1981 issues, which include articles featuring Marc Stevens, Sue Nero, and Lisa de Leeuw, and pictorials of Hillary Summers, Tiffany Clark and Lysa Thatcher, and much more. We republished all 1980 issues in 2020.

A few observations about these NYC-based mags:
– they seem stuck on imitating ‘Hustler’ with a “funny” news section. The ads are FAR funnier!
– most of their model layouts are from the West Coast or the UK.
– they’re obsessed with ‘swinging’. Blecchh! 😉
