In this era where everyone seems to be chasing follows, likes, shares, and clicks I have to admit I try not to look at which Rialto Report interviews have had the biggest audience. The reason is simple: I’ve wanted to cover all people from the golden age of adult film, regardless of their notoriety, because all stories are interesting and informative, big or small, famous or unknown.
But if you really want to know which Rialto Report podcast has been downloaded the most, there’s only one winner. I interviewed Christy Canyon back in 2019, and that podcast has been downloaded, streamed, and listened to tens of thousands of times since then. For anyone who knows her, that won’t be a surprise: Christy was one of the biggest stars of the 1980s, she’s always entertaining, and she’s still involved in the business today.
Christy turns 60 this week, and I wanted to pay tribute to her.
A few years ago, the former adult film star Rick Savage gave me an audio tape of a conversation he’d had with Christy back in 1992. Christy was touring the country with her dance act at the time, and Rick was writing porn star profiles for a Japanese men’s magazine. Their chat was more of a casual conversation, not meant to be an interview, but Rick taped it so he could mine it for information for his next article.
After their meeting, Rick stored the tape – and forgot about in for the next 30 years. When he came across it again it was unlistenable, a mass of hiss and static, but with the help of AI, I managed to clean it up. It was recorded in a noisy New York diner so it has variable sound quality – but I wanted to share it with you because it’s an interesting time capsule.
Despite the fact that this conversation took place 34 years ago, it has a surprisingly nostalgic feel: Christy had started in the X-rated film industry in 1984 as a teenager with a carefree attitude in the free-for-all, wild west days of the video explosion. She retired a few months later before returning in the late 1980s – this time as a contract girl, a little older, wiser, and now thinking about a career and a future.
Rick had done two scenes with Christy – the first was in the early days when she was a newcomer, and the second when she was a seasoned professional, almost a veteran – and he was struck by the change he noticed in her – which he wanted to ask her about. Rick also took photographs of Christy which have never been seen before – and we’re sharing these below.
Today, Christy is still going strong – connecting with her fans and providing regular content via her social media accounts and through Only Fans.

Awesome and uplifting interview. I love how ladies like Christy Canyon, Shanna McCullough, Nina Hartley, and many other adult stars defy the stereotype of the lost, tragic, addicted porn casualty. It’s not necessarily the porn industry folks. Some people are just going to spiral anyway. And some people come out on top.

WOW. As my memory erodes, and I can’t remember some movies I did or some ladies I worked with, I have to thank Rialto Report (and AI) for cleaning up the old audio tape I used to record my conversation with Christy. This took me back to a time when working in the biz WAS fun. And Christy….was always Christy. Easy to work with, a REAL personality. Yes, at 76, I’ve forgotten some of my movies and some of the ladies, but I’ll never forget my 2 movies with Christy. She was and is one of a kind.

What a wonderful walk down memory lane! It was so great to see these pics again…some of which I took. (The ones Rick was in with Christy, with the pickle.) I have always been in awe that she was so agile that she could curl up into a hotel room sink. It was fun to hear myself laughing in the background too. What a sweet woman, one of my faves in the business. It was so cool to write Vivid scripts for her like “Twisted” and the “Passages” series.

YES!!!!!!! Thank you so much. She was so goddamn cute.
YES, she was a cutie. And Susan and I worked together one time, and that was in Phoenix the night before you and I worked together the first time. And it was also the time the main tape deck malfunctioned and the scene (and the whole movie) was lost forever. After sitting on the set all day, I did one scene at 2 a.m., another at 6 a.m., then they rushed me to the airport so I could get back to L.A. for our scene the next day. I was exhausted. Fortunately, I had wonderful you to work with.
What happened to Greg Rome who recruited her for ummm “figure modelling?” Someone said he showed up around 1990 on film and was looking rough. I’d be a bit surprised to hear he was still around…
Nobody realllllly knows greg’s fate but I’ve heard rumors… not too great 🙁
I heard Greg Rome had gone back to hustling on Santa Monica Blvd(the title of one of his gay films) before being deported back to Canada, after having acquired a serious drug problem. I had heard he was even using some of his video boxcovers while trying to lure johns! I would guess that he, Mike DeMarco, Rick Cassidy, Craig Roberts and Paul Barresi stopped getting work in straight porn due to the AIDS scare, since they had done some gay work on screen. Ironically, they kept employing Marc Wallice , who ended up infecting several people. Too bad Rialto can’t locate some of those guys(except for Cassidy, who is deceased) to find out what has happened to them in the last 40 years!
Paul Barresi appears to be back in the swing of things, in “legitimate” acting or producing.
Crazy scene with Angel, and another guy, one of the most epic scenes I ever remember.
HIs would be a great Rialto story.
Another bi guy, Rick Cassidy was the other male in the scene with Paul and Angel that you referenced .He was the actor who was most similiar to Barresi as both were featured in endless gay photo features and were big names in the gay genre, but had unremarkable careers in straight porn. Paul is still very active on Facebook, and he wrote a brief autobio a few years ago.
A huge thank you to the site’s author for the new photos of our goddess Christy Canyon and the interview with her. Oh la la, for my anniversary in early June, I made myself a full-length, full-proportioned textile doll of Christy Canyon. It’s not a sex doll in the full modern sense, but simply a soft, rayon-like doll for cuddling and cozy sleep, like a plush bunny. It’s a shame I can’t post her photo here. People say my doll’s portrait looks very much like Christy Canyon. Incidentally, this isn’t my first textile doll. I already have dolls of Desiree Cousteau, Carol Connors, Ebony Ayes, Traci Lords, and Sarah Young. And now, here’s Christy Canyon!

Another RR knock out of the park. I’ve been working a lot so catching up with your podcasts etc and as Bob pointed out, the Jeanna Fine segment was so sad and I felt such sympathy for her.
And as Bob also pointed out, this was a fun segment. Christy is just beyond cool and sounds like she’d be so awesome to hang out with. And she still looks great ! A natural woman -I can’t abide the silicone/tats/piercings etc, which is probably why I like the 1977-1985 era the best.

Ah, more golden age memories! Thanks April and RR for this glimpse into the past, from a fellow 60-something. Rick and Christy also appeared together in a couple of Electric Blue episodes for the Playboy Channel. First was called “Panty Raid” where Rick and his buddy infiltrate a sorority house (Heather Wayne was the object of his lust). Christy was a perpetually naked sorority gal. The other was “Beverly Hills Wives” where Rick and his buddy head to California to find wayward girlfriend Traci Lords. They end up being put in charge of a skin flick, with Rick auditioning starlets, Christy among them. Heather Wayne once again ends up with Rick. My favorite line was Rick’s assessment of the skin flick’s script: “This script is about as sexy as a pregnant camel”. You guys are great! Wish you all the best!
Christy Canyon, God’s gift to humanity!!!! The first video I ever saw was the one where you were jogging and felt ill sat under a tree and died, but you were not meant to die at that time.
