Back in 2017, The Rialto Report published an interview with Bob Adelman about his landmark book of photographs, ‘Gentleman of Leisure’ (1972), which documented a year in the life of a New York pimp called Silky and his group of prostitutes: Lois, Linda, Kitty, Tracey, and Sandy.
Bob Adelman, who passed away in 2016, was also know for photographing cover stories for countless magazines, including Esquire, Time, People, Life, New York, Harper’s Magazine, The New York Times Magazine, and Paris Match. In the 1960s, he documented notable civil rights events, and his photographs have been exhibited at the Smithsonian, the American Federation of Arts, and are included in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art.
The Rialto Report recently discovered a small collection of Adelman’s photographs of adult film stars, taken on the streets of New York in the early 1980s.

Awesome Article Keep Up Good Work
Bob’s book, Silky, was a great book and inspired me to do photography. It was so good. Thanks for honoring his work. xxx solidarity.
Do you know the book about the Argentinian bombshell actress, Isabel Sarli, that did the first ever masterbation scene in a movie, apparently. The book is Violated Frames. I wrote the forward to the book. Because her film, Naked in the Sand (it’s on youtube w/spanish title) was the first sexy film I ever saw. And I wanted to be her! LOL. Perhaps a story on her for Rialto report would be worth pursuing. Although not sure how much her films showed in the USA.
Fantastic! Thank y’all for sharing these.
