The Rialto Report really took off when we tracked Jennifer Welles down for one of our first podcasts. Over two years after its posting, it still remains one of our most popular interviews.

We’ve stayed in touch with Jennifer since we first met her and she continues to be surprised and delighted by the level of interest in her story. While she values her privacy, we’re pleased that she chose to share some of her recent photos with The Rialto Report.

From our original podcast with Jennifer Welles:

“Whatever happened to” is a question that is often asked in relation to the stars of the golden age. But seriously: whatever happened to Jennifer Welles?

She was one of the rare actresses who started out in 1960s sexploitation before moving into hardcore films in her late 30s often playing the role of a more mature woman.

One moment she was appearing in a string of highly successful films that culminated in the box office smash Inside Jennifer Welles, and then suddenly she was gone.

Formerly close friends and colleagues, and even her ex-husband all told a similar story of how her disappearance was as complete as it was sudden. The story circulated that she had made it clear that no one should attempt to find her.

How could someone whose image had been so prominently splashed across billboards and the pages of magazines have vanished into thin air? Where has she been for the last four decades?

The answers are revealed in this episode of The Rialto Report.

So the week after a rare-as-a-pope’s-condom interview with Roberta Findlay, we get new pictures of the legendary Jennifer Welles.

Yesssss…. Sunday is here and it’s The Rialto Report!

    Jennifer,
You were the very 1st actress I saw in a porn movie ¨Honeypie.¨I was a 15 and a fanatical fan of yours ever since. You have given me literally hundreds of moments of sheer happiness over the years and I thank you. MY biggest dream for years was to meet you and spend time with you. This will have to do

I’d recognize those beautiful eyes anywhere. Wish someone out west would become a booking agent for these pros to do the autograph show circuit so they can makes some bucks. Seka does it and Marylin Chambers was big while she did them.

A classic star from the Golden age of porn. Still looks great, she doesn’t look a day over 80.

And you know what? Through Jennifer Welles was how I first discovered The Rialto Report!

I was reading her bio on Wikipedia and I came across a link to this site! One of the points in the article used this site as its citation. I looked it up and was like whaaaat??? She suddenly resurfaced for an interview? I had read her wiki bio page before that but decided to read it again and was surprised to see that it had been updated with newly released information. I remembered reading that she disappeared a long time ago and to see that she had given an interview just made super curious that I had to check it out!

Looking at these recent pictures of her, she looks healthy and lively, which is wonderful to see and know. And in that picture of her posing with the melons….looks like she’s got some naughty sense of humour, which is great to see in an elderly woman!

Still a lovely lady! And she still does that thing with her lips – that look!

Very good interview. But when she remarked on how good she looked in her 40’s, I wish the interviewer had affirmed her opinion… eagerly. She deserves the praise. And, when she mentioned that she is broke, I think the interviewer should have offered to find a ghost writer to help her write an autobiography.

I have been a fan of Jennifer’s since the 60’s. I never get tired of watching her films. I would really like to trade e-mails with her if that’s possible.

Mrs. Welles smile can still light up a room!

So glad she is still vibrant and active in her twilight years.

Remember Jennifer when she was doing B&W softcore films. The Groove Tube was the first time I saw her in color. What was more amazing that she was close to forty at that time. She has aged very well. Thanks to The Rialto Report for this podcast. One of the best interviews I’ve heard in some time.

When I say “Jennifer Wells”, I still get the chills of passion running thru my entire body. She is unlike any woman I’ve ever encountered thru-out my life. I would go to the World Theater on 49th street like it was my home and watch “Inside Jennifer Welles until it would close at umpteen in the morning, unable to leave before hand. I would receive my autographed pictures from her while shaking in my shoes with the most intense hard-on known to man. The actual sight of her use to cause my heart to race. I remember going to see her striptease show once on either 47th or 48th street in times square one night and I approached the stage to give her a tip and to see her unbelievable kouchie closeup. I became special for having done so. However, Today, at this moment, I feel shocked to hear she is broke, and living somewhere w/o electricity, having water hauled in. My mind can’t grasp at my being 62yrs old now, how that could be….with so many millions of former “Welles-niacs” that would be honored to care for her every thought of need, in her twilight years. I wish for a chance to change that.

…. She can not possible want to live that way. I want her back in NYC, where she loves so much. If not in the constant “hustle & bustle” of the city ….then perhaps just over in Long Island not far away, so she can visit and attend Bway shows and shop at her leisure. Please give someone a chance to provide the awesome care and attention she deserves. -Derrick
