Golden Goddesses Reunion

Golden Goddesses Reunion

This week The Rialto Report was honored to attend the first year anniversary of the publication of Jill Nelson’s ‘Golden Goddesses: 25 Legendary Women of Classic Erotic Cinema’.

The event took place at Larry Edmunds Bookshop in Los Angeles and featured appearances by Georgina Spelvin, Raven Touchstone, Ginger Lynn, Kitten Natividad, Rhonda Jo Petty and Kay Parker as well as Bill Margold, Bob Chinn, Kenji and Jill Nelson herself.

You can buy copies of Golden Goddesses here.

From the publishers website about ‘Golden Goddesses’:

Golden Goddesses vibrantly casts light upon twenty-five significant women involved in the erotic film industry during its Golden Era, between the years 1968-1985 when participation in adult productions was illegal. Profiling performers, directors, scriptwriters and costumers, Golden Goddesses is a palate of insights, intimacy, vulnerability and strength, as it immerses readers into the lives of these celebrated and audacious females.

Featuring the author’s own interviews with Marilyn Chambers, Seka, Kay Parker, Rhonda Jo Petty, Serena, Georgina Spelvin, Juliet Anderson, Candida Royalle, Sharon Mitchell, Gloria Leonard, Annie Sprinkle, Ann Perry, Jody Maxwell, Barbara Mills, Veronica Hart, Kelly Nichols, Ginger Lynn, Kitten Natividad, Amber Lynn, Laurie Holmes, Christy Canyon, Julia St. Vincent, Roberta Findlay, Nina Hartley and Raven Touchstone, Golden Goddesses also includes film highlights and more than 300 photos.

These fascinating women of classic adult film are presented with depth, sensitivity, and historical scope while capturing the quintessence of a rebellious spirit from days gone by.

Wonderful shots! Georgina still has that mischievous sparkle in her eyes.

I have that book on my nightstand now. Just finished the chapter on Kelly Nichols. Excellent book!
Hoping that some of the Ladies present will consent to a podcast on the Rialto Report in the near future.
I believe Georgina has already done so….

Georgina Spelvin truly was the Meryl Streep of porn, there was no role she couldn’t handle. She had a natural beauty that today’s botoxed, plastic surgery addicted porn stars will never have. I can remember being in my early 20’s and thinking, I wonder what is feels like to have sex with a woman like this? She moved with the grace of a ballet dancer and just carried herself with a regal presence. I wish she would have had more diversity in the men she performed with, she only did one interracial scene in her entire career. I also would have liked to see Ms Spelvin perform in a scene with the late Luis Short Stud, the midget performer that was famous for his scenes with Vanessa Del Rio.

Absolutely awesome pictures. Not only are these beautiful, talented ladies, but they all have PERSONALITY (something that most of today’s enhanced sex bots that populate most of the product that comes out of the industry lack). God, I miss that golden era. But their legacy is intact. It is part of the sexual history of America.
    Bravissimo!

    Ashley,

Again, it was an absolute pleasure to meet you and April in person last week. I’m proud and pleased that Rialto Report joined us to particpate in a wonderful evening. The photos are fantastic.

Thank you so much for your continued support of the Goddesses and of the book. 🙂

Excellent Post! For those who appreciate Georgina Spelvin, and the book “Golden Goddesses”, please be aware that the blob “The Projection Booth”, on 10/29/2013, has a podcast on “The Devil in Miss Jones”! Ms. Spelvin and “Golden Goddesses” author Jill Nelson are participating in the podcast, as is Gerard Damiano Jr.

In the post for the 10/29 podcast, the Projection Booth lists “The Rialto Report” as one of the links. These 2 blogs often complement one another, as the Projection Booth occasionally examines erotic cinema.

Fabulous photos of a wonderful event. I wish I could have attended, but am so happy to see that it went so wonderfully. “Golden Goddesses” is absolutely one of the best tomes on this era of cinema and every one of these women are inspirational.

Great book ! I devoured it cover to cover, barely taking a pause to breathe. So much info, sometimes packing quite an unsuspected punch such as Amber Lynn’s hardships that could easily have broken a lesser woman. Good to see these “girls” still standing, each of them truly a Golden Goddess in her own right, as several of the subjects (Marilyn Chambers, Juliet Anderson) sadly did not live to see this gargantuan tome’s publication.

Hopefully one day that Barbara Bourbon writes her auto biography about her life.

In my personal opinion Barbara Bourbon had the talent to make it in television & mainstream films. All she needed was that one big lucky break.

If anything Kay Parker is more beautiful than ever and her sentience and supernal nature runs very deep.

Thank you for the contribution you have made in speaking of Kay’s legacy.

I never see anything concerning the post-porn career or whereabouts of Lili Marlene. Everyone has their favorites, but in my opinion she was in the first rank of porn queens; she wrote the book on ‘uninhibited’. Is it possible to glean recent information concerning this Haley’s Comet of nana?

Considering the surging interest in resurrected careers of aging foxy ladies (part of their appeal, IMO, is that they are old enough to know better, but do it anyway; that’s sexy) one would think she, if alive and not frazzled, could make a comeback fortune. Besides being game for anything, she had (has?) one of the all-time best bodies in the long history of the game.
